If you’re on the fence about creating a new website for your business, let me save you the time and the headache and give it to you straight — yes, in 2020 you still need a website.

You might be wondering why waste money and time on a website when you have a perfectly good Facebook page or a scroll-stopping Insta feed.

Well, here’s the thing. Your social media profiles are great for getting noticed. But they’re not so great for actually closing deals or selling products.

That’s why in this post, I’m pulling back the curtain and sharing 7 reasons why in 2020 you still need a website. But not just any website. You need an engaging website that reflects the heart and soul of your business. You need a website that speaks to your ideal customer in a way that gets them excited about working with you. You need a website that will help you stand out online. Here’s why.

1. It helps you get found on search engines

The most important reason why you need a website is that it helps you get found on search engines. This works even better if you publish new content regularly (like a blog post once every week or once every two weeks). Each time you update your site with new content, search engines like Google take notice and they will start displaying it to people searching for keywords, phrases, and terms that are related and relevant to your business.

That means more business for you and more business means more money. Plus, you don’t have to rely on social media or on paid advertising to bring people to your website.

2. It gives your followers a place to learn more about your offers

Let’s face it: when you share your offer on social media (whether a course, a service package or a product), you only get so many characters. That means you have to be really concise and get to the point quickly. But it also means that you don’t have a lot of room to cover everything important about it.

Now you can probably guess where I’m going with this — your website has no restrictions. You can provide as many details as you want, add as many testimonials and trust-building factors as you want, and toss in more than one call to action.

Your website is the perfect place for your followers to learn more about your offerings and yourself, so the real question is why wouldn’t you have a website for your business?

3. It positions you as the expert

This one is closely related to #2 above. Your website gives you plenty of opportunities to add testimonials, features, reviews… you name it. All of those add credibility to your expertise and tell your website visitors that you get results for your clients and know your stuff.

Add in a blog that demonstrates your knowledge, a professional design, and a few strategic opt-ins and you’ll be seen as the expert in your industry in no time.

4. It makes it easier to sell

Your website makes it easier to sell. When someone is shopping around for your services, they land on your website in a research or buying mode. If they’re ready to buy, it’s easy to get them to book a spot or fill out your application.

When they’re on social media, they’re probably there to catch up on what their friends and family are doing or get the latest scoop on what’s going on. They’re not really in shopping mode. When you give them the link in your DMs, chances are they’ll get distracted by another post or another message and completely forget about you.

Not to mention the whole checkout and payment process works better on your website than through Instagram DMs.

5. It saves you money in the long run

This one refers back to getting found in search engines. Without a website, you’ll have to spend money on software to create landing pages for each and every one of your offers. You’ll also have to invest in paid advertising to promote your business.

Those costs are significantly less when you have a strategic website that does its job. You can create landing pages on your website instead of paying for a third-party platform (that’s often more expensive than your website!).

You can also add a blog and publish new posts (which can be written, podcasts or Youtube videos) regularly which makes it even easier to show up in search engines when someone is looking for what you have to offer.

You already know that your website can help you get found in search engines. But it also establishes your expertise, it makes it easier to book clients and sell your programs, it answers all of your visitor questions — in other words, your website is the best marketing tool you can have.

Finally, your website belongs to you. Remember MySpace? What about Periscope?

My point exactly.

You’re not at the mercy of the algorithm nor do you have to worry about all your content disappearing overnight because someone decided to shut down a particular platform.

Final Thoughts

And that’s basically it. As awesome as Facebook and Instagram and TikTok may be, the truth is that you’re at the mercy of their algorithm so your fans and followers may not even see your post. And you don’t own those platforms which means all your hard work could disappear in an instant.

That’s why your website is your best business asset and why you absolutely need a website in 2020 (and beyond).
